Frequently asked questions
Why does the tool take a moment to start?
The FFmpeg engine (about 33 MB) loads once on first use and is cached for instant starts later.
Is there a file-size limit?
No. Big files are read a piece at a time and results are written as they are made, so multi-GB videos work without running out of memory. Re-encoding a long video simply takes longer.
How does the size limit work?
Byhand works out the bitrate that fits after leaving room for the audio and the file container, lowers the resolution when it has to, and re-encodes again if a try lands over. If a size is out of reach, it says so and shows the smallest size it reached.
